Peace of mind for $209

No it's not a gun. lol

Had some vandalism over the years. Night lighting outside helped, but didn't cure the problem entirely.

Recently I ordered an inexpensive wireless(video), AC powered, 4 camera security system. Can switch among any camera with a nice little remote. A trip to wallyworld got a cheap 13" TV to dedicate to the system. It can also be hooked up to motion sensors and/or vcr/tv. It's all made in China, but what isn't these days? lol It works well enough though. Good deterrent so far.

If a crummy neighborhood warrants this kind of approach, what do you think it will be like when the SHTF?

Very nice to see all sides outside your home in real time. Especially in low light, and have the ability to videotape it as well as view it.

Many more addons and features available, but also more money. (remote web viewing, battery powered, etc)

Too much fun. :D

google "X10 cameras" if you're looking for a similar solution.

It was $209 plus shipping, but that didn't rhyme. heh

I've had this stuff for a week now. Wish I'd bought it years ago.

Just so you know, you don't need to "hook it up" to motion sensors... with the right software, it can record motion on the video whenever it occurs.

I have a similar system =) But it's part of a computer, using a DVR card.

I have bought and installed 3 similiar systems in the past year - one for my mum, so when the doorbell rings she can just switch the TV channel to see who is at the door.
One for a friend's mum, who had a "tied up and beaten up" robbery two years ago - does the same thing.
And one for myself - because if it's the police, Jehova's Witnesses or Mormons, I'm not going to bother getting out of my chair, let alone opening the door...

A nice feature, but I went for the cheaper version. I don't keep my pc running all the time.

The good part is they are visible in the windows. So far it's keeping the lowlifes away. Funny thing about cameras, people seem to avoid them. hehe

Did you buy from X10.com? I had one of their cameras a few years ago and found the resolution to be really poor.

Yes and yes. This is the low end stuff though. You're not going to get professional grade gear at that price. They also had some high end stuff I noticed too. Vanguard I think? A little too pricey for me. A few thousand bucks vs. a few hundred bucks. These work well enough to see what's going on. They can be manually focused too. I played with that on 2 of them.

I'm on a corner lot. One cam faces the house across the street to the west. One faces the house across the street to the south. One faces the vehicles in my driveway. Another will go in the garage window facing east to the backyard and alley.

For a couple hundred, I'm satisfied.

Mine all still work, and cost $40 or so each. All I do is turn the TV to channel 6 and it's a display of who is on the doorstep. And we've had some very heavy rain over the last few weeks!
